My Dream of Moving to Italy Came True! Although I had dreamed of moving to Italy for a long time, I was only able to make it a reality this year, thanks to
Taisia and Elizaveta from Your Italian Life!I am currently in my first year of a
Master’s program at Università degli Studi di Firenze, studying
"Strategie della comunicazione pubblica e politica." Unfortunately, I started my studies
1.5 months late due to a long wait for my visa, but all of my professors were understanding and helped me integrate into the learning process as quickly as possible. My classmates also helped me adapt to my new environment.
What I love most about my university is the
healthy approach of professors towards students and the
serious attitude of students towards their studies. To me, it's the perfect blend of the
Italian "dolce vita" mindset and real academic responsibility.Right now, we are in the middle of the
winter exam session, and the great thing is that each student
chooses their exam dates individually, depending on their level of preparation and personal preference 😄. There are no pre-prepared question lists—everyone studies using books and notes.
For those planning to apply this year, I have two key pieces of advice:
- If you're moving to Florence, start looking for housing at least three months in advance! Finding a good apartment in a central area at a reasonable price—without falling victim to scams—is a real challenge. Be mentally prepared for this process.
- Learning Italian in Italy and abroad are two completely different things! Even if you've been studying the language for years, nothing prepares you for full immersion. I personally felt this, as I was the only foreigner in my program. Before moving, try to listen to as much Italian as possible—news, TV series, talk shows! I think my language adaptation would have been much smoother if I had paid more attention to this beforehand.
